Homemade Corn Dogs

Ingredients
8 all-beef hot dogs
1 cup yellow cornmeal, plus extra for dusting hot dogs
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 tbsp sugar
2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
1/4 tsp ground black pepper
1/4 tsp onion powder
1 cup + 2 tbsp whole milk
2 tbsp vegetable oil
2 tbsp honey
1 large egg
Vegetable oil, for frying
Directions
- Pat hot dogs dry and skewer, leaving 2 inches as a handle. Lightly coat with cornmeal using your fingers.
- Whisk cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and onion powder in one bowl. In another, mix milk, oil, honey, and egg. Combine both and whisk until smooth. Let rest for 5 minutes.
- Add oil to a pot (about 2½ inches deep) and heat to 350°F.
- Pour batter into a tall glass. Dip hot dogs one at a time, twisting to coat. Lower into oil while twisting to set the coating. Fry until golden, about 3 minutes, turning as needed. Fry in batches to avoid overcrowding.
- Drain on paper towels. Enjoy with mustard, ketchup or both.
💡 Extra batter? It’ll coat up to 4 more corn dogs — just tilt the glass to help coat them fully.
